I’m not going out to get some bedding in for my four hens. So having a think about it, I came up with using soil from the garden, an area with some clean sandpit sand for cleaning their feathers and for the nest area dry leaves from the oak tree. I asked them ‘How’s that for being creative hennies?’ and I think they approved, especially scratching around in the soil. They’re out while I’m with them and some of my plants are getting a bit bashed, but it is what it is and the hens are happy.
