Hanker

I don’t do it these days. I can see, that to hanker for something is to miss out on the now, the here, the presence of oneself, others and the surroundings. Memories can visit, places, people, moments of the past and fine too, but I’ll not waste my life on hankering. Maybe it’s my Viking genes, for there’s wisdom in knowing, that once you burn your boat and keep warm by those flames, there’s no use looking out to sea.
